Internal Call - Child Care Centre Coordinator (Full time - Indefinite contract)
An internal vacancy for the post of full-time Childcare Centre Coordinator for an indefinite contract has arisen within the Foundation.
Applicants must be FES employees, not only by the closing time and date of this call for applications but also on the date of appointment.
Basic Salary:- € 26,458.48 (2025) (€531 increment per annum plus COLA in line with Collective Agreement)

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants shall be in possession of :
- A completed MQF level 5 Qualification or higher in Child Care Management or equivalent courses which lead to an accreditation for the role of Child Care Centre Coordinator;
- Two years work experience in early childhood education (a recent copy of Jobsplus employment history is required);
- A valid Paediatric First Aid Certificate;
- A valid Food Handling Certificate;
- Police Conduct Certificate (issued within the past six months);
- Approval of requirements for the role of Centre Coordinator if available - if not available kindly apply for it;
- Ability to communicate in both Maltese and English. Those with a Level 3 Certificate (O-Level) or Language Proficiency Certificate in Maltese and/or English will be given preference
- Applicants must be FES employees, not only by the closing time and date of this call for applications but also on the date of appointment (a copy of the latest payslip as proof is required);
- Those with an ECDL qualification would be given preference.
Job Description
To ensure effective leadership and management of the Childcare Centre, working with partners across all sectors and promoting high quality care to all children. This service is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment; to establish and promote a working environment in which the emotional, social, psychological, physical, developmental and educational well-being of children is paramount and in which a supportive, empathetic and non judgmental approach is used in all interactions with children and their families.
The functions of the job role are to
- Encourage positive relationships within the centre, encouraging all the parents, carers and staff to participate in the decision making processes relating to the provision;
- Ensure the health, safety and well being of the children;
- Promote the children's development, learning and play;
- Contribute to planning and assessment and to support the involvement and ongoing development of the staff;
- Champion effective teamwork and reflective practice.
Apart from the duties listed in this call, the seleted employee might be required to carry out administrative duties at Head Office as required.
In relation to the Service User
- Evaluates the quality service provided and the satisfaction of Service User
- Regularly reviews and updates plans for individual children
- Communicates effectively with children and parents/guardians, using a range of communication modes.
- Increases children’s awareness of the functions and purposes of language skills
- Supports children in developing relationships with others enabling them to cope with new challenges, become autonomous and self-determined individuals
- Shows and shares genuine interest in each child and makes every effort to foster warm, caring and friendly relationships to support children’s well being.
- Positively values diversity and demonstrate competence of similarities and differences and implements strategies, policies and practice to promote inclusion
- Develops an empathy development culture by supporting children to understand the emotions which others are experiencing
- Be sensitive to children’s interests and inclinations and to provide stimulating environments which challenge the minds of every learner
- Promotes a creative and innovative range of play and learning experiences, making full use of indoor and outdoor opportunities and facilities
- Makes sure that first aid and medication are provided according to the correct procedures
- Makes sure that accidents, injuries, signs of illness and other emergencies are promptly identified, recorded and reported
- Maintains supervision of children appropriate to the levels of risk and the child’s stage of development
- Recognises indicators of possible child abuse, helps children to protect themselves from abuse and responds sensitively to child’s disclosure of abuse
- Ensures that the approach to all areas of work with children, Staff and parents in the centre is empathic, positive and non-judgemental
- Ensures that all requirements to meet the National Standards for Child Day Care (2006) are met and essential policies such as Health & Safety, First Aid, Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding Children, Data Protection Act...etc, are implemented consistently throughout the Centre with respect to the delivery of the childcare provision.
In Relation to Parents and Guardians
- Provides parents/guardians with information about the setting and the development of their child.
- Arranges for parents/guardians to be given regular information about the curriculum, the progress of their children and other matters affecting the Centre to promote a shared understanding of FES aims.
- Acts upon complaints received by the Service Users and other difficulties, in liaison with the Programme Coordinator, Manager Services and Head of Programmes
In Relation to the Team
- Coordinates the work of the Staff to ensure that the Centre’s aims, objectives and policies are implemented monitored and evaluated in line with the goals of the Foundation for Educational Services.
- Leads, manages and supports Staff effectively on a day to day basis to enable all to carry out their responsibilities.
- Monitors Staff in the completion of their tasks and provide feedback; conducts Staff appraisals and identifies training and developmental requirements to sustain and enhance the provision
- Attends training as part of Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
- Ensures that all Staff have access to induction, individual supervision, support and mentoring
- Assists Staff in preparing a holistic programme of daily activities
- Takes responsibility of running programmes if there is shortage of childcare Staff.
- Identifies and sorts out conflicts of interest of disagreements with colleagues in ways that minimise damage to the work being carried out when require with the cooperation of the Programme Coordinator, Manager and Head of Programmes
- Where possible involves all Staff in decision- making in order that they feel a sense of ownership and involvement
- Exchanges information and resources with Staff to make sure that they feel a sense of ownership and involvement
In Relation to Management
- Regularly reports progress to Programme Coordinator, Manager and Head of Programmes
- Carries out risk assessments by checking the Centre regularly and identifying and record hazards, removing those hazards that can be eliminated.
- Maintains proper records as required and take action accordingly
- Participates in the drawing up of operational plans, reports, evaluation exercises and programmes. Also participates in meetings involving decisions regarding the operations and functions of the services
- Liaises with the Programme Coordinator, Manager and Head of Programmes regarding improving or expanding the service
