The Foundation for Educational Service (FES) is receiving applications from prospective candidates who would like to work in the role of Child Support Worker for the Skolasajf 2024 programme starting from 10th July 2024. The contract will start on the 1st July 2024 in view of possible training and preparation required for the role.This is applicable for all Centres in Malta and Gozo.

Training at Centre - 8th and 9th July 2024 (Compulsory) 


Remuneration 

Rate of pay is € 8.91 per hour 

The Employee shall work on a part-time basis up to a maximum of thirty (30) hours per week. Rostering of employees will be affected according to the exigencies of the service.Employees on an indefinite contract will revert to their indefinite role for the September Bridge Holidays.

Those who have already occupied this role with FES during the past year (2023) and who provided proof in this regard, will by-pass the interview. This depends also on previous performance with FES.

Eligibility Criteria

As from this year, all applicants that do not possess a qualification in education, will be required to attend a number of compulsory training sessions. 

By the closing time and date of this call for applications, applicants must be in possession of the below eligibility criteria: 

  1. A qualification pegged at MQF Level 4 or higher; 
  2. Qualifications related to education (e g teaching) or a valid IFE Certificate or confirmation of acceptance into the Child Support Worker Development course offered by FES, organised by IFE. 
  3. Ability to communicate in both Maltese and English; 
  4. Reference in the form of either a: 
    • Payslip or contract for the previously employed role of Child Support Worker  or 
    • latest MEYR payslip if candidate is a MEYR employee or 
    • Character reference letter written by a qualified professional who knows the applicant well 

Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Learning Support: 

  • Supporting and collaborating with colleagues in the running of / Skolasajf activities;  

  • Assisting in the preparation of educational materials and playing an active part in all the components of the instructional and educational process of all the children in the class, in particular for the child/children with individual educational needs (IEN) so that their entitlement and learning needs are catered for. 

  • Able to interpret the child’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP) so that its goals, set out during the Winter scholastic year , or, not yet achieved in the past scholastic year would continue to be worked upon, whilst taking into consideration the resources and strategies used to achieve such goals. 

  • Promoting an inclusive community of learners, in collaboration with all members of Klabb 3-16/ Skolasajf staff where all students are valued and respected. This includes collaborative work in school and with other agencies, such as the Child Development Assessment Unit (CDAU), Resource Centres, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and other educational and therapeutic environments;  

  • Always promoting the aims, ethos and policies of the Foundation for Educational Services Klabb 3-16 / Skolasajf and actively working as a staff team member;  

  • Assisting in the preparation, dissemination and use of teaching resources; this also entails their upkeep whilst such resources are being used in the centres; 

  • Supporting student/s during activities held outside the Skolasajf premises;  

Personal Support: 

Supporting pupils with individual educational needs in their personal care and hygiene needs. This includes:  

  • toileting – cleaning and washing; accompanying the child to the toilet; undressing and dressing; changing of sanitary towels and incontinence pads;  

  • always ensuring the maximum educational benefit and safety for individual pupils by providing them with assistance during physical education, games, excursions and therapy sessions, as well as normal feeding during the time/s specified by the Centre.   

  • seeing to the mobility, posture and seating needs including lifting pupils and pushing pupils in wheelchairs according to Health and Safety Regulations issued under the Health and Safety Authority Act taking into consideration international guidelines. 

  • The CSW is to report immediately any areas of concern, such as bullying, suspected abuse on children or any other grave matter, Centre Coordinator and / or PER. 

The present guidelines shall be:  

  • lifting to 27 kilograms shall be undertaken by one Child Support Worker;  

  • lifting between 28 and 54 kilograms (both inclusive) shall be undertaken by 2 persons;  

  • beyond 54 kilograms, a mechanical lift is to be used;  

  • Pushing wheelchairs: up to 45 kilograms occasionally; up to 28 kilograms frequently; and up to 9 kilograms, as necessary.  

Transport-related Duties

With out prejudice to the obligations of the owner and driver of the vehicle concerned regarding the safety of passengers and the full observance of the law and regulations related to transport matters, a Child Support Worker may be required to carry out transport-related duties, with a child individual educational needs, should the requirement be indicated by the Foundation for Educational Services. 

In such cases, the Child Support Worker shall:  

  • assist in the boarding and un-boarding of pupils on and off the transport vehicle and, in the case of pupils who are wheelchair/buggy users, put on the restraints on the wheelchair/buggy and put on the passenger restraint on the pupils to ensure safety during transportation;  

  • carry out transport supervision duties to and from school when the transport of pupils during normal school hours is necessary; supervision duties carried out outside centre hours shall be remunerated at the same rate. 

Other Duties  

  • The Officer shall perform other duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer, FES according to the exigencies of the Foundation for Educational Services.
