Klabb 3-16 - Playworker with Extra Responsibilities (Part time - Indefinite contract)
Vacancies for the post of part-time Playworker with Extra Responsabilities (PER) for an indefinite contract have arisen within the Foundation for the service of Klabb 3-16 starting from the Scholastic Year 2024/2025.
PERs are remunerated at the rate of €9.93 per hour. The employee shall also receive any bonuses and any other benefits which s/he is entitled to in terms of law on a pro-rata basis. The opening hours of the service are between 14:30pm and 18:00pm, Monday to Friday, from September till end of May and from 12.00pm till 18:00pm during the month of June. PERs are expected to work five days a week, Monday through Friday. Throughout Skolasajf PERs are also expected to be available to work after hours.

Eligibility Criteria
By the time of application the prospective candidate is expected to have:-
- A qualification pegged at MQF Level 4;
- As well as
- 24 months playworker with the FES; or
- Having worked as a playworker during the last four (4) years Skolasajf Terms; or
- 2 years experience as a teacher or kindergarten educator or learning support edcuator;
- 2 years proven experience in administration. Preference will be given to those candidates that have experience as a playworker with FES.
- Ability to communicate in both English and Maltese;
- PER Course Certificate (course needs to be completed)
- Recent police conduct (issued within the past six months)
- Employment history issued by Jobsplus as proof of experience.
Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
-
Ensuring that the programme of activities delivered is interesting, valuable and appropriate to the children using the facilities. The Playworker with Extra Responsibilities (PER) needs to ensure that the centre is providing a variety of play and learning opportunities, whilst identifying and accommodating changing needs.
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of programme users through checking equipment, undertaking first line child protection measures and organising activities appropriate to the users at any given time. All areas of concern are to be reported to the centre coordinator.
- Providing a positive model of behaviour, by being well acquainted with FES policies & procedures and ensuring that such policies are being followed.
- Ensuring that parents, carers and other visitors are made to feel welcome on visiting the Centre. Any information requested by parents, carers or guardians are to be directed to the centre coordinator. At no point are PERs to discuss matters with parents, carers and guardians.
- Maximising the learning value of the activities by guiding good planning, evaluation and self-reflection. Keeping in mind that some children may require special attention and/or will have come from various cultural and religious backgrounds.
- Contributing to the accountability of the centre through assisting in the maintenance of agreed records including registers, serious injury reports, incident reports, guardian consent forms and collecting of money including issuing of receipts. Also, assist the Centre Coordinator with staff rosters and any statistical data collection required by FES Head Office
- Assist in the provision of care and activities for children some of whom may require special attention and/or will have come from various cultural and religious backgrounds.
- The PER is to report immediately any areas of concern, such as bullying, suspected abuse on children or any other grave matter, to the Centre Coordinator.
Other Duties:
- The PER may also be asked to fulfil the role of a play worker and manage a class and carry out appropriate activities scheduled from the FES Programme of Activities. This will be done according to the exigencies of the service and per Job Description here under.
- Lead groups of children in specific sport, games, crafts and other learning activities. Manage behaviours and adapt the activity to meet the needs of groups or individuals. Prepares for activities;
- The PER will be assigned other duties by the Centre coordinator or his delegate, according to the exigencies of the service. The playworker may also be asked to work between 7am and 5:30pm in centres which offer the extended service;
Transport-related Duties:
Without prejudice to the obligations of the owner and driver of the vehicle concerned regarding the safety of passengers and the full observance of the law and regulations related to transport matters, a PER may be required to carry out transport-related duties, with a child individual educational needs, should the requirement be indicated by the Foundation for Educational Services.
In such cases, the PER shall:
- assist in the boarding and un-boarding of pupils on and off the transport vehicle and, in the case of pupils who are wheelchair/buggy users, put on the restraints on the wheelchair/buggy and put on the passenger restraint on the pupils to ensure safety during transportation;
- carry out transport supervision duties to and from school when the transport of pupils during normal school hours is necessary; supervision duties carried out outside centre hours shall be remunerated at the same rate.
Other Duties
- The Officer shall perform other duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer, FES according to the exigencies of the Foundation for Educational Services.
