Full-time vacancies for the post of Childcare Educators in Gozo have arisen within the Foundation with an indefinite contract.

The Foundation for Educational Services (FES) is a public entity within the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation. The FES facilitates the link between formal and informal teaching on a National level by providing a range of innovative educational initiatives.


Remuneration

Salary:- € 17,814 (2024) x 408 (increments per year) as per collective agreement.

Contract Type:-  Indefinite

Job Description

The Childcare Educator works within a team whose aim is to contribute to the promotion and development of the care provision that offers high quality experiences to the children using the service. With the guidance of Childcare Centre Co-ordinator, the Childcare Educator ensures the well-being of all the children and support their access to learning, including those with special needs.

The Childcare Educator has the responsibility to meet the individual children’s needs, through play and learning opportunities and general care. The Childcare Educator’s responsibility and accountability for the children’s well-being must constantly remain within the Childcare Centre’s policies and procedures.


Eligibility Requirements

By the closing time and date of this call for applications, applicants must present: -

  1. Completed successfully the MQF Level 4 Qualification related to Childcare (approved courses by the Education Resources Department).
  2. A valid Paediatric First Aid Certificate;
  3. A valid Food handling certificate
  4. Ability to communicate in both Maltese and English; (applicants with O'Levels in Maltese and English or proficiency testing will be given priority)
  5. A character reference letter;
  6. An employment history issued by Jobsplus;
  7. A recent police conduct, issued within the last 6 months (you can apply for it online - click here)

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Provision and Promotion of Quality Care, Play and Learning Opportunities

  • Supervises the children in an inclusive manner, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • Provides a service that respects children’s life experiences and celebrates diversity in terms of language, culture, ability, race and religion.
  • Provides a range of play and learning opportunities and general care that reflects the child’s individual ability.
  • Nurtures positive relationships with children ensuring their emotional well-being and promoting their confidence and self-esteem.
  • Ensures that every effort is made to maintain the children’s dignity and self-respect.
  • Shares responsibility with colleagues for creating a provision in which all children can interact and develop fully, intellectually, physically, socially and creatively through play.
  • Provides learning experiences that challenge and enable young children to grow in confidence and independence within a stimulating environment.
  • Communicates effectively with low tone of voice and sensitively when addressing children.
  • Takes responsibility for the observation, assessment, monitoring and record keeping of children’s learning and development using a variety of methods so that planning is backed by factual information.
  • Carries out the necessary basic needs of all the service users, which includes changing nappies, potty training, feeding (including sterilizing bottles and prepare formulas), etc.
  • Supports young children in learning and developing general skills, e.g. washing and toileting routines, table manners, socializing with others etc.
  • Ensures that dietary needs of service users are respected.
  • Maintains a clean, healthy and organised environment. Organizes and stores toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas.
  • Implements all the policies of the Centre, especially those relating to the safety and protection of children.
  • Ensures adequate recording and reporting vis-à-vis the daily activities of the children.
  • Undertakes such other duties, which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties/responsibilities of the post.

Working in Partnership with Parents/Carers

  • Ensures a warm and welcoming approach to parents/carers, which encourage their participation and involvement in the Centre’s activities.
  • Develops positive relationships with parents/carers and be sensitive to their needs.
  • Supports parents/carers to develop their understanding of how their child learns.
  • Be sensitive to the individual needs of parents/carers.

Training and Development

  • Undertakes appropriate training opportunities and professional development in order to maintain a high-quality provision.
  • Through regular supervision and performance reviews, identifies and undertakes appropriate training and professional development opportunities that ensure the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding are kept up to date.
  • Follows in house training as recommended by the Head of Programme or his/her delegate.

Operational Tasks

  • Have a sound knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures relating to the safe well-being of the children, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection; reporting all concerns to the Childcare Centre Co-ordinator.
  • Takes appropriate action (as defined by Centre’s policies and procedures) in cases of emergency, urgent matters or abuse.
  • Understands and promotes inclusion and equality policies and procedures.
  • Where appropriate, supports and works with other professionals.
  • Documents and reports information as assigned by Childcare Centre Coordinator or other professionals.
  • Able to work as a team member and be respectable towards the peer group and seniors’ opinions.
  • Attends and participate in all Team meetings.
  • Identifies and documents support deficiencies, problems, and concerns bringing them to the Team meetings or to the attention of the Childcare Centre Co-ordinator.
  • Sanitize toys and play equipment.
  • Contributes ideas, suggestions and observations regarding the effectiveness of the programmes as planned and implemented.
