Vacancies for the post of part-time home work Tutor for an indefinite contract have arisen within the Foundation for the service of Klabb 3-16 starting from the Scholastic Year 2024.

Tutors are remunerated at the rate of €12.40c per hour. The employee shall also receive any bonuses and any other benefits which s/he is entitled to in terms of law on a pro-rata basis. The opening hours of the service are between 14:30pm and 18:00pm, Monday to Friday, from September till end of May and from 12.00pm till 18:00pm during the month of June. Tutors are expected to work between 15:00pm and 17:00pm from September till end of May and between 12:30pm till 2:30pm in June with a required minimum of three (3) shifts per week. Tutors do not work during scholastic holidays when children are not given any homework from school. 


Eligibility Criteria

By the closing time and date of this call for applications, applicants must be in possession of the below eligibility criteria:

  1. Teacher’s Warrant (or Temporary Warrant);
  2. Teaching Degree (Level 6) (MTL is also applicable);
  3. Ability to communicate in both English and Maltese;
  4. Proof that candidate is a MEDE employee (provide GP47 or letter of appointment) or reference letter from the head of school.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Purpose

The Tutor's role is to help students:

  • Achieve better mental focus, time management, and organisation skills.
  • Understand different academic concepts.
  • Complete homework assignments to the best of the student’s ability.
  • Improve writing and numerical skills.
  • Help form a positive social environment with other students.
  • Learn to feel like respected and valued members of the school community.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Attend a tutor training session as directed by the Centre Co-ordinator.
  • Suitably honour the roster issued by the Centre Co-ordinator, unless otherwise advised.
  • Assist learners with their homework, and with reading and writing skills and activities.
  • Respond to emails and/or phone calls from the Centre Co-ordinator.
  • Keep record of attendance and activities completed with the learner, using the forms provided by FES.
  • Participate in organising special events and activities for students.
  • Provide appropriate feedback wherever necessary to the Centre Co-ordinator.
  • Other duties that may be delegated to him/her by his/her seniors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Responsible for the group of students being assigned to them on the day with respect to:

  • Academic work
  • Class control
  • Health and safety of the children
  • Keeping record of work

Supervision Received:

  • The post-holder shall be accountable to the Centre Co-ordinator or his/her delegate.
  • The post-holder will be expected to work without constant supervision.
  • The post holder might be required to perform other duties in specific programmes
