Playworker with Extra Responsibilities (Resource Centre) Skolasajf 2025
Applicable for both Malta and Gozo
The Foundation for Educational Service (FES) is receiving applications from current employees who would like to work in the role of Playworker with Extra Responsibilities (Resource Centre) for the Skolasajf 2025 programme starting from 9th July 2025. The contract will start on the 1st July 2025 in view of possible training and preparation required for the role.This is applicable for all Centres in Malta and Gozo.
Training at Centre - 7th and 8th July 2025 (Compulsory)
Remuneration
Rate of pay is €10.06 per hour with an additional hourly allowance €1.50
The Employee shall work on a part-time basis up to a maximum of thirty (30) hours per week. Rostering of employees will be affected according to the exigencies of the service.Employees on an indefinite contract will revert to their indefinite role for the September Bridge Holidays.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
By the closing time and date of this call for applications, applicants must be in possession of the below eligibility criteria:
- A qualification pegged at MQF Level 4;
- Ability to communicate in both Maltese and English:
- Working at a resource Centre;

- Latest payslip to confirm current employment with FES.
- Candidates with valid Food Handling and First Aid certificates will be given priority;
- Those candidates who are under 18 years of age are to upload the birth certificate and a medical note from their doctor stating that they are fit for work (saved in pdf format); only those candidates who are 17 years of age and older are eligible to apply;
- Reference in the form of either a:
- Payslip or contract for the previously employed role of PER Resource Centre or
- latest MEYR payslip if candidate is a MEYR employee or
- Character reference letter written by a qualified professionalwho knows the applicant well
Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
- To carry out duties in relation to the day-to-day operation of the Skolasajf Programme for Resource Centres.

To undertake face to face work with the children in delivering programmes of activities in Resource Centres.

Work together with other team members, providing guidance regarding the needs of the service users.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Learning Support:
-
Always promoting the aims, ethos and policies of the Foundation for Educational Services Skolasajf and actively working as a member of the staff team by supporting and collaborating with Centre Coordinator and other colleagues.

Be knowledgeable about various disabilities / difficulties experienced by service users;
-
Able to interpret the child’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP) so that its goals, set out during the Winter scholastic year, or, not yet achieved in the past scholastic year would continue to be worked upon, whilst taking into consideration the resources and strategies used to achieve such goals.

Prepare activities and resources, as indicated by the FES Programme of Activities, that are safe, age appropriate and meet the specific needs of service users as guided by the Individual Educational Plan (IEP);

Liaise with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and other educational and therapeutic institutions as instructed by the Centre Coordinator;
-
Participating in hydrotherapy, multi-sensory, sensory integration and other sessions, in Skolasajf Resource Centres where such services are available, to ensure access to educational and personal entitlements of students;

Following guidelines in reports issued to parents by professionals/professional bodies (e.g. SPL for feeding and communication, physiotherapist for handling …)

Supporting service users during activities held outside the Skolasajf premises.
Personal Support:
Supporting pupils with individual educational needs in their personal care and hygiene needs. This includes:
-
toileting – cleaning and washing; accompanying the child to the toilet; undressing and dressing; changing of sanitary towels and incontinence pads;
-
always ensuring the maximum educational benefit and safety for individual pupils by providing them with assistance during physical education, games, excursions and therapy sessions, as well as normal feeding during the time/s specified by the Centre.

seeing to the mobility, posture and seating needs including lifting pupils and pushing pupils in wheelchairs according to Health and Safety Regulations issued under the Health and Safety Authority Act taking into consideration international guidelines.

The PER is to report immediately any areas of concern, such as bullying, suspected abuse on children or any other grave matter, Centre Coordinator and / or PER.
The present guidelines shall be:
-
lifting to 27 kilograms shall be undertaken by one PER;
-
lifting between 28 and 54 kilograms (both inclusive) shall be undertaken by 2 persons;
-
beyond 54 kilograms, a mechanical lift is to be used;
-
Pushing wheelchairs: up to 45 kilograms occasionally; up to 28 kilograms frequently; and up to 9 kilograms, as necessary.
Transport-related Duties
Without prejudice to the obligations of the owner and driver of the vehicle concerned regarding the safety of passengers and the full observance of the law and regulations related to transport matters, a Child Support Worker may be required to carry out transport-related duties, with a child individual educational needs, should the requirement be indicated by the Foundation for Educational Services.
In such cases, the PER shall:
-
assist in the boarding and un-boarding of pupils on and off the transport vehicle and, in the case of pupils who are wheelchair/buggy users, put on the restraints on the wheelchair/buggy and put on the passenger restraint on the pupils to ensure safety during transportation;
-
carry out transport supervision duties to and from school when the transport of pupils during normal school hours is necessary; supervision duties carried out outside centre hours shall be remunerated at the same rate.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Ensuring the safety and well-being of programme users through checking equipment, undertaking first line child protection measures and organising activities appropriate to the users at any given time.

Ensuring that parents, carers and other visitors are made to feel welcome on visiting the play facility and that they receive appropriate information and advice.

Maximising the learning value of the activities by planning and evaluating activities.
-
Contributing to the accountability of the centre through assisting in the maintenance of agreed records including registers, accident books, etc.

Assist in the provision of a variety of appropriate play opportunities for children some of whom may require special attention and/or will have come from various cultural and religious backgrounds.
General Duties

The Officer shall perform other duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer, FES according to the exigencies of the Foundation for Educational Services.
